Since moving to Harpenden, I’ve discovered that there is no shortage of lovely places to visit with children. We are spoilt for choice when the sun is shining, with beautiful parks, woodland and outdoor spaces all around us.
Finding something affordable on a very wet day can be a little trickier - especially when you don’t want every rainy weekend to end in an expensive soft-play visit.
So, if the forecast is looking gloomy and you need to get everyone out of the house, here are five genuinely free things to do with kids in or near Harpenden.

1. Rediscover Harpenden Library
A library visit may sound simple, but that is often exactly what makes it so enjoyable.

2. Explore St Albans Museum + Gallery
St Albans Museum + Gallery is one of those places that works well when you want to go somewhere without committing to a full day out.
The museum is set inside the former Town Hall, and children can explore the historic courtroom, old police cells and changing exhibitions. The building itself is interesting, with plenty of corners and details to discover.
